RPGX Studios, a division of X8 Studios, is dedicated entirely to the craft of game content creation—from tabletop adventures to digital worlds. Officially founded in 2018, our story actually begins two decades earlier.

In 1998, two teenagers, Ashton Rogers and Craig R. Key, built a homebrew TTRPG system from scratch. What started as a backyard experiment evolved into a four-year campaign that drew in players, sparked lifelong friendships, and ignited a shared obsession with storytelling and design.

 

Over the next few years, countless homebrew projects were born, tested, and archived in what would become the group’s creative vault. To keep ideas alive, Ashton launched the original RPGX website—a community forum where designers around the world could trade ideas, share mechanics, and collaborate.

When the landscape of gaming and copyright changed in the mid-2000s, RPGX went dark in 2006. Yet the spirit of creation never faded. Ashton continued running small games and designing campaigns on the side, keeping the flame alive while life moved forward.

By 2014, the arrival of Dungeons & Dragons 5e and a new Open Gaming License reignited that spark. Armed with new tools and a growing digital tabletop scene, Ashton began producing high-resolution maps, adventures, and custom mechanics for online play. Interest surged—so did the realization that RPGX needed to return, not as a forum, but as a studio.

 

Reuniting members of the original crew and welcoming new talent, RPGX Studios was reborn. The mission: transform decades of ideas, notes, and late-night campaigns into professional, original content for the modern gamer.

RPGX designs and produces full games, software, and content for all platforms, including tabletop board games, card games, TTRPG, VTT Tools, computer games, mods, and supplements for other companies' IPs as game licensing allows.
