Board Games or Bored Games?

Board games are definitely making a resurgence these days. Long gone are the days of playing Life, Scrabble, or Monopoly with your family. Now we have board games of all makes and models. Are you into horror themes? We've now got games like Cthulhu, Betrayal at House on the Hill, and Nemesis. Superheroes more your style? We now have Marvel and DC themed everything, and don't get me started on deck-building games or your quintessential party games like Cards Against Humanity.

33-year old me loves a good board game. A chance to compete, or accomplish some goal surrounded by a few close friends is very therapeutic for me. This wasn't always the case, as growing up I couldn't be bothered to play a board game. Why would I when I had a sweet Super Nintendo, and Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past to beat for the millionth time? I definitely didn't want to sit at a table and spell words or count how many 6's I rolled on 5d6 for "Fun", and I still don't (excluding rolling d6's for D&D lol). However, the amount of creativity and imagination poured into today's games is astounding. The talent of the artists that bring the characters and scenery of these games to life is amazing! I am more likely these days to ask you to sit down and play a game like Dice Throne or Wingspan than I am to challenge you to a game of Madden or COD.

Recently x8xid82 and I filmed an episode of the NerdCast centered around unboxing and playing a board game we basically chose at random from a local comic/game shop. Neither of us had ever heard of it, but we were drawn in by the premise, and me personally by the artwork. The episode got scrubbed because of technical issues, but we will be re-shooting for an upcoming episode, and I couldn't be more excited. Unmatched has quickly become one of my favorite games. I won't go into detail, because you should check the episode out when it releases, but I highly suggest you give it a try if you have the opportunity.

What are some of your favorite board games? What are your recommendations? Or do you despise board games and want to rant? Leave it all in the comments below!!!

So many great board games out there, but we gaming nerds like to call them "Table Top Games" *eye roll* My favorite are the deep strategy games that involve deals and back-alley agreements that take a couple of hours to get through. Anything with deception is aces in my book. Since I'm terrible at strategy, I have to rely on my wit to win. Games like Politika, Risk 2044, and The Thing make my heart sing.

Robo Rally is a classic made by John Garfield, creator of Magic the Gathering and founder of WotC. It's sad that you can't get the game and expansion in their original formats anymore. The version I have is a damned collector's item! We will…

I didn't know I still liked board games until Ashton revealed RoboRally. Mostly I do card-type games, but that board game will always get a chuckle out of me! If you've never heard of it, try out RoboRally, you guys!
